💣A woman in Limassol has barricaded herself inside her home and is threatening to blow it up after an attempted eviction — the area is cordoned off
A serious incident unfolded this morning in the Agios Ioannis area of Limassol: a 65-year-old woman locked herself inside her house and claimed she was ready to blow it up using gas cylinders.

According to Philenews, the woman is in severe emotional distress and demands that the eviction order be cancelled. She informed her son that she had barricaded herself inside and was holding several liquefied gas cylinders.

Significant police forces arrived at the scene, the road in front of the house has been closed off, and residents of nearby homes are being kept at a safe distance.

Police officers were scheduled to enforce the court-ordered eviction, but the woman refused to leave the property and, according to her son, is threatening to harm herself.

Negotiators are currently on site, attempting to establish communication and de-escalate the situation.

Police in Paphos are investigating another case of online fraud. A 71-year-old local woman reported that in September she came across an online advertisement promoting a so-called “state investment platform.” After clicking the link and creating an account, she received calls from individuals who posed as investment consultants and promised to manage her “investments.”

When the platform displayed fake profits, the woman believed the investment was successful and made two transfers, sending a total of €6,500 to the account they provided. Later, when she attempted to withdraw her money, she realized the platform was fraudulent and the funds were gone.

Police urge the public to be extremely cautious with online investment offers and to verify the legitimacy of platforms before trusting them with their money.

✈️ Cyprus Opens Applications for Air Traffic Controller Training Scholarships
The Cyprus State Scholarship Foundation (IKYK) has announced the launch of applications for 15 scholarships in the field of Air Traffic Management, starting in 2026. The application period runs from 2 December until 2 February 2026 (15:00).

The scholarship covers approximately 2.5 years of training, including full tuition fees, and provides a monthly allowance of €1,025. Graduates are required to work in Cyprus for two years after completing the programme.
