Mayor and residents furious over planned settlement of thousands of settlers on Deryneia lands. Ankara plans about 6,500 homes across more than 12 sites, presented as social housing; 1,192 luxury units are advertised for Deryneia.

No human remains have been found so far in eight excavation sites of the Committee for Missing Persons in Cyprus — seven in occupied areas and one in government‑controlled territory.

About 300 new tips are under assessment; roughly 100 judged credible and planned for immediate digs. Excavations never fully stopped over summer, fell to four teams in August and returned to eight in September.

Current searches target wells in Assia, Galatia lake (Karpasia), Exo Metochi, near Kioneli, a riverbed at Pano Dikomo, a lime kiln at Kiumurtziu and seven wells in Egkomi; no findings yet.

🛥️SALAMIS-02/25: Cyprus–Greece joint SAR exercise
Joint Cyprus–Greece search and rescue exercise "SALAMIS-02/25" conducted Friday inside the SAR responsibility area of the Republic of Cyprus.

Participating units included the Hellenic frigate ADRIAS, a helicopter of the 460th Search and Rescue Squadron of the National Guard, and a specialist nurse from the Ambulance Service of the State Health Services Organization. Larnaca Search and Rescue Coordination Center coordinated the drill in cooperation with the Hellenic Navy General Staff.

The exercise is part of the bilateral SAR agreement between Cyprus and Greece, aimed at upgrading and harmonizing SAR capabilities across the Eastern Mediterranean.

📝State Pledges Support to Relatives of Helios Crash Victims
President Nikos Christodoulides said the State recognises a moral duty to stand by relatives of the Helios air tragedy at a memorial in Mosfiloti.

He noted the current government has started implementing decisions, including measures for those affected by the 2013 financial haircut, and promised special arrangements for victims. The service, attended by families, officials and citizens, marked 20 years since the crash.

A seismic event of magnitude 4.0 was recorded in the early hours today.

The epicenter was located about 23 kilometres north by north‑east of Limassol, near the communities of Eptagonia, Ora and Akapnou. 🕖 Time Change 2025: When to Turn the Clocks Back by One Hour
Although summer weather still lingers in Cyprus, the days are getting shorter and the nights longer — signaling that the switch to winter time is approaching.

During the night of Saturday, October 25 to Sunday, October 26, 2025, at 4:00 a.m., clocks should be turned back by one hour, giving everyone an extra hour of sleep.
On smartphones and computers, the adjustment will happen automatically.

It’s worth noting that back in September 2018, the European Commission proposed ending the twice-yearly time changes, allowing EU member states to decide whether to adopt permanent summer or winter time.
As no final decision has been made, the usual time change remains in effect.

At 1.5 km offshore from Limassol, a rare encounter was recorded: a green turtle came face to face with a 2.7-meter mako shark.
