7️⃣Occupied north doubles casinos, leans on gambling economy
The administration in the occupied north approved doubling casinos from 32 to 64.

Observers say the move resembles surrender to organised crime networks more than coherent economic policy. The entity remains internationally isolated and unrecognised; its economy is strained by the Turkish lira’s collapse, high inflation and shrinking revenues. Authorities are turning to gambling, opaque transactions and the shadow economy to prop up finances.

Critics warn this deepens corruption, social harm and long‑term fiscal fragility; analysts urge structural reform and external engagement.
