✈️ TUI flight to Paphos hit by flock of birds — flash seen near engine

TUI flight TOM5TN, travelling from Cardiff to Paphos, was forced to return to the airport shortly after take-off after the aircraft struck a flock of birds.

🎥 Passenger footage shows dozens of birds flying close to the aircraft, followed moments later by a bright flash near the engine under the right wing. Some passengers also reported smelling burning inside the cabin.

The crew turned the aircraft around and landed safely back in Cardiff at around 2:52 pm, where airport fire and rescue services were waiting.

All passengers and crew were reported safe.

The runway was temporarily closed following the incident and reopened at approximately 3:22 pm, after which normal airport operations resumed.
