✈️ Cyprus Holiday Ended in the Hands of Police
A 29-year-old UK resident returned home after a holiday in Cyprus and clearly was not expecting this kind of welcome: police officers met him immediately after his plane landed at Bristol Airport.
🚔 It turned out that the man had been suspected of drug trafficking, and an investigation into him had already begun several months earlier.
During one of the police operations, officers searched a house in Cardiff. According to investigators, a backpack containing drugs was thrown out of a window during the raid.
But it seems the man believed he had managed to avoid trouble.
South Wales Police later commented on the situation rather bluntly: the holiday turned out to be “short and unpleasant,” because instead of a normal airport arrival, handcuffs were waiting for him.
⚖️ The court sentenced the man to 40 months in prison.

🚔 Cyprus Still Unable to Appoint a Permanent Prison Director After Almost Three Years
One of the most important positions in the country’s prison system has remained vacant since 2023. At the moment, 15 candidates are competing for the role of Director of Cyprus Central Prison.
Why does it matter? Because this is far more than just an administrative position.
📍 Today, Cyprus’s prison system is considered one of the most overcrowded in Europe:
• the number of inmates exceeds the facility’s intended capacity by more than double;
• previous reports highlighted issues involving violence inside the prison;
• authorities have already begun reforms and recruitment of additional staff.
Out of 35 initial applicants, only 15 candidates remained after exams and screening procedures. In the final stage, three candidates will be shortlisted before a commission makes the final decision.
💶 The future director’s salary will start at €5,950 per month, not including possible government allowances and bonuses.
The new head will face more than routine management duties — they will have to tackle one of the most challenging problems in the country’s correctional system.

🐍 “Mating Dance” of Vipers Spotted Again in Paphos (Statos–Agios Fotios)
Residents of Paphos are sharing alarming footage after several snakes were seen displaying behavior that specialists describe as a mating “dance.”
📹 Videos show two — and sometimes more — snakes intertwining and rising upward together. Experts say this is not a fight, but part of their mating season behavior.
⚠️ Important:
— these are most often Cyprus vipers (highly venomous)
— during this period they may become more active and less predictable
— such sightings are increasingly being reported near homes and roads
📍 Snake activity season in Cyprus is currently at its peak, especially in areas close to nature.
🚫 Do not approach them
🚫 Do not try to get closer for photos or videos
☎️ If spotted, contact the appropriate services

🏚 Cyprus Could Face a New Serious Problem: Hundreds of People Risk Losing Their Homes
Following recent tragedies, authorities have started carrying out more intensive inspections of unsafe buildings to prevent further collapses. But another problem has now emerged — what happens to people who may need to be urgently evacuated?
📍 In Larnaca, a residential building with 24 apartments is already under threat of evacuation.
And this may be only the beginning.
Specialists are currently inspecting 14 additional buildings, including large residential complexes where hundreds of people live.
The main question still remains unanswered:
❓ Where are people supposed to go if their homes are declared unsafe to live in?
With current rental prices, finding a new place to live within just a few days is nearly impossible for many families.
The situation highlights that unsafe buildings in Cyprus could become not only a safety issue, but also a serious social crisis.

🇨🇾🇮🇳 Cyprus President Arrives in India Accompanied by 50 Business Leaders and Representatives of Three Banks
Cyprus is launching one of its largest economic missions in recent years.
President Nikos Christodoulides did not travel alone — the delegation includes around 50 business representatives, along with executives from the country’s leading banks.
📍 The main focus: investments, technology, and new projects.
The sides are expected to discuss:
• attracting Indian businesses to Cyprus;
• launching direct flights;
• technology and artificial intelligence;
• expanding trade;
• new financial services.
💳 One particularly interesting development: one of Cyprus’s banks is opening an office in Mumbai — marking the first physical presence in India by a Cyprus-Greece banking institution.
Discussions are also underway about introducing India’s UPI instant payment system in Cyprus, a platform already used daily by millions of people across India.
✈️ Currently, there are no direct flights between Cyprus and India, with journeys often taking more than 12 hours including connections. This issue has also become one of the key topics of the talks.
👉 For Cyprus, this is more than a diplomatic visit — it is an effort to open doors to one of the world’s largest economies.

🏚 Residential Seagate Building in Limassol Could Face Urgent Evacuation and Demolition
Authorities in Limassol have applied to the court requesting the immediate evacuation and demolition of the Seagate residential building in the Germasogeia area.
According to district officials, the building is considered one of the most dangerous residential properties in the city and has long raised serious concerns because of its condition.
⚠️ The court must now decide:
• whether residents should be urgently evacuated;
• whether the building will be demolished;
• how much time residents will be given to relocate.
The main issue is not only the condition of the building itself, but also the future of the dozens of people currently living there.
If the court supports the request, authorities will have to urgently find accommodation solutions for the residents.
The situation is unfolding against the broader backdrop of Cyprus’s unsafe housing problem, where building inspections have become significantly stricter following recent tragedies.

🎓 Cyprus Preparing Major Changes to the Special Education System
Authorities are planning a reform aimed at making education more flexible and more focused on the individual needs of each child.
One of the main proposed changes:
👨👩👧 Parents will have greater influence in choosing the educational environment for their child.
Even if specialists recommend a special education program, parents will be able to make the final decision at the initial stage.
Other planned changes include:
• strengthening support for children studying in regular classrooms with individual assistance;
• removing certain outdated terminology;
• expanding support programs based on each child’s needs;
• increasing support for children with serious health conditions;
• making greater use of digital technologies and artificial intelligence.
The Ministry of Education says the goal of the reform is to move away from separating children and create a more modern system where diversity is viewed not as a problem, but as a strength.
📌 The draft legislation will soon be opened for public consultation before being submitted to parliament.

🏚 Roof Collapses at Abandoned House in Larnaca — Rescue Teams Searched for People Under the Rubble
On Thursday afternoon, the roof of an abandoned building on Stavrodromiou Street in the Sotiros area of Larnaca collapsed.
🚨 Firefighters, police, and EMAK rescue teams were urgently dispatched to the scene. The road was closed due to concerns that a neighboring building could also collapse.
Particular concern arose because abandoned buildings like this are sometimes used as shelter by homeless people.
🐕 Search dogs were deployed to check for anyone trapped under the debris.
Fortunately, after inspecting the area, no people were found.
Following the incident, authorities decided to carry out a controlled demolition of the dangerous part of the building, while both structures are expected to be demolished in the coming days.
⚠️ The incident once again highlights the issue of dangerous and abandoned buildings in Cyprus, especially amid recent island-wide inspections of unsafe properties.
