Residents and environmentalists accused developers of illegally cutting down centuries-old eucalyptus and destroying the green zone.

In response, the owners and architects of the project made a longing statement explaining the situation.

What the defenders say:

• Construction is carried out strictly according to a permit obtained after multiple approvals with urban planning and environmental departments.

• All 24 parking spaces are underground, so as not to burden the neighbourhood.

• The building was «moved away» from the riverbed, increasing the green zone on the west side.

• Contrary to the demands of officials, the entrance to the underground parking lot was not made in the northwest corner (which would require the felling of a group of eucalyptus), but in an alternative place to save the trees.

About the trees:

The developers deny that they cut down healthy eucalyptus. According to them, the employees of the forestry department during the inspection identified 6 out of 21 trees - they were dry and rotten, posed a danger, and had to be removed. The rest are saved.

About the demolition of the mansion:

Opponents of the project claim that a beautiful old house was demolished for the sake of construction, which had to be preserved. In response, the developers remind: the demolition took place 45 years ago, since then the site has changed owners five times, and the current owner cannot be responsible for the events of half a century ago.

Result:

Riverside Stories is called «absolutely legal development with sensitivity to the environment», and criticism is attributed to selective citation and distortion of facts.

Environmentalists insist that the green zone is being destroyed for the sake of luxury housing.

The truth, as always, is somewhere in the middle. But the court has already ruled in favour of the construction. The dispute continues.
