🪧Cyprus protesters: EU‑Mercosur deal risks food safety, farmers and environment
Nicosia — Broad coalition of farmers’ unions, environmental and consumer groups held a demonstration at the House of Europe and delivered a resolution to the European Commission president and national leaders. Organisers say Mercosur imports may use pesticides banned in the EU, halloumi PDO is excluded, small family farms face unfair low‑cost competition, and tariff cuts won’t necessarily lower supermarket prices. Environmentalists warn of increased deforestation. Critics also say split ratification weakens national vetoes and call for a European Court review and suspension of implementation.

😨Paphos mayor says coordinated political attack, denies allegations
Paphos mayor Phedon Phedonos denies any wrongdoing, calls recent claims a coordinated political attack that has disrupted his family's peace. He says he has not been questioned by police. Links the wave to his past complaints about drugs and money laundering and to timing that diverts attention from "videogate" and alleged campaign funding claims. Offers full cooperation, demands real evidence, warns investigators may use prolonged probes to sideline him. Online reaction split between strong support and calls for full inquiry.

Reactions to Paris Roufos' 'Attila' pun
Statement from Historical Memories EOKA 1955-1959 criticises a recent remark by comedian Paris Roufos that played on the word "Attila". The group says "Attilas" is the code name of the 1974 Turkish invasion of Cyprus, an event that cost lives, left missing persons and refugees and produced ongoing occupation. Calls it an open historical wound with legal, political and human dimensions. Says public debate demands awareness and responsibility. Turning national tragedy into wordplay disrespects memory and diminishes the sacrifice. Not seeking personal conflict; stresses that historical conscience is a basic duty and that respect for history and its victims is non‑negotiable.
