π Larnaca Airport: Parking at Full Capacity β How to Avoid Fines and Extra Costs
During the holiday peak, the parking situation at Larnaca Airport has become critical.
With car parks fully booked, drivers are leaving vehicles on sidewalks and nearby open areas β and returning to fines ranging from β¬50 to β¬125.
Airport operator Hermes Airports warns that demand has surged, with passenger traffic up by 18%. Even though 500 additional parking spaces were added this year, bringing the total to 3,500, capacity is still insufficient.
The only reliable way to avoid trouble is to book parking online in advance at Larnaca or Paphos airports.

π Cyprus prisons overcrowded: authorities prepare deportation of foreign inmates convicted of minor offenses
Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides has announced urgent measures to reduce overcrowding in the Central Prisons. According to him, more than half of the inmates are foreigners β 599 out of 1,120 people (53.5%).
Together with the Ministry of Justice and the Attorney Generalβs Office, the government is preparing a mechanism for the voluntary deportation of foreign nationals convicted of non-serious crimes.
Around 100 inmates could be released and deported in the near future. The measure will not apply to those convicted of murder, drug trafficking, or other serious offenses. The goal is to ease pressure on the prison system and restore order.

π Store Hours in Cyprus Ahead of New Year: What You Need to Know
December 31 is not a public holiday in Cyprus. Supermarkets and most retail stores will operate as usual but will close earlier than normal β around 6:00 PM. After that, the holiday break begins.
On January 1 and 2, most shops will remain closed, so residents and visitors are advised to do their shopping in advance.
At the same time, bakeries, kiosks, and pastry shops may open during the holidays β their working hours depend on the ownersβ decision.
