President of Cyprus on Haralambos Taiganidisโ€™ achievement: โ€œHe proved that the limits of possibility exist only in our mindsโ€
The President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, praised Greek Paralympic champion Haralambos Taiganidis as a true example of determination and inspiration for the younger generation. The athlete set a world record by swimming 149 kilometers across open sea โ€” from Paphos to Larnaca โ€” and was honored at the Presidential Palace.

โ€œYou have proven that faith and perseverance can turn the impossible into possible. Your story should be a lesson for our children,โ€ said Christodoulides. He emphasized that at a time when young people face a crisis of values, living examples of courage and dedication are more important than ever.

The President also invited Taiganidis to visit Cypriot schools to share his inspiring journey with students. In response, the athlete stated that his goal is โ€œto show that we may be few, but we are stronger when we believe and act together.โ€

Christodoulides thanked the Cyprus Reserve Divers Association for supporting the record-breaking swim, adding that such examples of unity and strength of spirit make Cyprus a proud and inspiring nation.

๐Ÿš‘OSAK: Certain circles misleading on rehabilitation centres
OSAK issues a sharp rebuke to parties and MPs, asking them to stop invoking the federation to justify parliamentary positions. It says its stance on the rehabilitation centres bill has been steady since consultations began over four years and accuses specific circles of misleading, political maneuvers and serving private interests to the detriment of patients. OSAK recounts talks with ministers and parties; AKEL filed aligned amendments, DIKO limited fixes, EDEK had no contact. It urges the Health Minister to state positions publicly, rejects claims it serves private interests and says the law as passed mostly benefits private providers. KYSOA publicly endorses OSAK.

๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐ŸซConcerns over new teacher evaluation rollout
KEME (Inspectorsโ€™ Branch, PASYDY) raises reservations about practical application and insufficient staffing. Inspectors support reform if evaluation is a tool for improvement, not punishment. They already handle visits, guidance, training, exams, curricula, materials and many administrative duties; new tasks (school-violence plans, student transitions, unified school improvement) were added without extra staff. Proposed +24 posts lack substantiation; splitting roles into Evaluator and Advisor will raise workload and harm continuity. KEME asks for proportional staff increases, a unified Advisorโ€“Evaluator role, clear quality-focused criteria, realistic workloads and transparent appeals so inspectors can effectively support teachers and schools.

๐ŸฅผTwo head injuries found during ambulance transfer
Forensic: Dr. Marios Matsakis, appointed by the family, says two head injuries detected on an elderly woman who allegedly died during ambulance transfer. State pathologist Nikolas Charalambous participated. Both pathologists agree on the head findings and await histopathology results to check for pathological anomalies. No final conclusion yet, only indications. Question raised whether it is acceptable in Cyprus in 2025 that a patient could fall during transfer. Health service recorded events, will hand file to Police and will not comment further pending investigation. Earlier claim: fell from hands, hit head and died.

๐ŸŽโ‚ฌ85 fine kept for outdated offences in local government bill
Report triggers debate. Justice Ministry draft transfers municipal fixed fines into the new local government code. Current list includes 22 minor offences punished with โ‚ฌ85. Several entries appear anachronistic today โ€” examples cited: shaking carpets outdoors and running while mounted on a horse. Move highlights need to modernize and promptly amend the list. Municipalities will continue issuing notices, but enforcement and penalties will be governed by the new central law. Lawmakers face calls to review and remove obsolete items.

๐ŸŒSupreme Court annuls KISA removal from Associations Register
Supreme Court accepted KISA's appeal and revoked the Registrar's 2020 deletion. Ruling dated 27 October 2025. KISA, registered under the 1972 law, did not file mandatory statute amendments after the 2017 Associations Law despite extensions; Ministry opened dissolution proceedings in 2020. Administrative Court had dismissed earlier challenges. Supreme found the lower court's reasoning insufficient and that proportionality was not examined: rights of association and assembly cannot be effectively nullified without caseโ€‘byโ€‘case review. Deletion cancelled, KISA reinstated; state ordered to pay โ‚ฌ4,500 in costs.

Five Greek Cypriots detained since last July were released after all charges were withdrawn by the soโ€‘called 'military court'. The lawyer said: "They came here innocent, they will leave innocent" and praised Cypriot solidarity. The five said they feel happy justice was done. Two will face further hearing at 'Trikomo' court on 12 Nov 2025.
