🏗️Hasgüler vows to return Varosha
Mehmet Hasgüler, independent Turkish Cypriot presidential candidate, vows to reopen fenced Varosha to Greek Cypriot owners and will seek talks with President Nikos Christodoulides as an interim step to unlock long‑standing property disputes.

He supports a bizonal, bicommunal federation, rejects a two‑state outcome, and cites the Zurich‑London agreements as proof of coexistence.

Campaign blends populism and humor — “crazy but not insane” — pledges to sell two official cars to buy ambulances, donate half his salary to hungry schoolchildren, commute by bicycle, appoint women to top posts, not seek a second term, make a first trip to Baku and take to the streets for transparency; campaign fuels debate.

Matsas: A few resurfaced and disrespect Thanasis’s memory
Lawyer Savvas Matsas told the show Protoselido that the indictment in the Thanasis Nikolaou case is in its final stage — prepared, undergoing last checks and to be filed soon. Around 35 charges concern Stavrianos and former officers; alleged offences include failure to perform duty, perjury, false information to police, omissions and conspiracy. He said he is unaware of a complaint against judge Dora Varousotou or of any note naming killers. Matsas condemned biased, one‑sided social media reactions, called out "two or three" who resurfaced after 20 years and attacked the family’s memory, and stressed the Supreme Court decision on the cause of death is final. He also denounced campaigns targeting journalists and calls for their dismissal.

🪪Cyprus U.S. Visa Waiver Entry Delayed
Cyprus will not join the U.S. Visa Waiver Program this year despite having met all technical prerequisites and maintaining one of the lowest visa denial rates. Citizens must continue to apply for B‑type visas while many EU travelers use ESTA. The government ratified bilateral agreements, deployed passenger‑name record systems and signed cooperation pacts on crime and terrorism. Political priorities, administration changes, stricter immigration rules and a recent U.S. shutdown delayed a decision; no country advanced this cycle. Officials expect reconsideration in the new fiscal period starting October 1 and will keep pursuing bilateral talks; approval would simplify travel and deepen ties.
