🗣️Strike Unjustified, Ministry Urges Dialogue
Deputy Ministry of Social Welfare calls the 24‑hour strike by Social Welfare Services staff unjustified and premature. The Ministry expresses regret for the inconvenience tomorrow to users of the services. It says direct talks with unions PASYDY and ISOTITA were taking place even today and were expected to continue next week. The need to create six individual programmes for people with severe disabilities and to contract some services privately is not disputed. The contested issue of supervision by a ministry department can be resolved only through dialogue. The Ministry urges unions to lift measures and attend talks with restraint and cooperation.

🚗Heavy traffic on Limassol–Nicosia motorway
Dense traffic reported on the Limassol–Nicosia motorway at Pera Chorio Nisou on Sunday afternoon, 28 September. Police attribute the congestion to a public event taking place in Dali, which has increased vehicle flow on the affected stretch and created slow movement and queues.

Drivers are urged to allow extra travel time, keep safe distances and consider alternative routes where possible. No serious collisions have been reported; updates to follow as conditions change.

🫂Social Welfare Staff Start 24‑Hour Strike
29/09/2025 — Staff of Social Welfare Services (YKE) stage a 24‑hour stoppage, PASYDY sector council announces.
Reason: YKE appointed coordinator of contract to create individual programmes for persons with disabilities instead of the Department for Social Inclusion (TKEAA); union says the role is outside YKE remit.
Union welcomes the programme but rejects YKE coordination and accuses the General Director of a unilateral, unfair decision.
Deputy Minister had said the transfer would be re‑examined on 29/9; union sought dialogue but says the General Director ignored it.
Union declares a 24‑hour warning strike and a staff protest at the Deputy Ministry building.

Calls for ground crews, strategic deployment for 8–10 min response, more personnel, reversal of 70/30 suppression–prevention funding, national coordinator with operational experience.
