🌍 International Day of Sobriety: A Global Call for Awareness
Every year on September 11, the world observes International Day of Sobriety — a reminder of the dangers of alcohol abuse and the importance of healthy lifestyle choices.
📖 Global Context
The initiative began as a movement to raise awareness about how alcohol affects not only health but also families, societies, and entire economies.
🇨🇾 Cyprus Perspective
Cyprus, with its long winemaking history, has always had a close connection to alcohol culture. From ancient times, wine played a significant role in rituals and everyday life. Yet, modern Cyprus faces the same challenges as other countries: youth binge drinking, road accidents, and health issues linked to alcohol abuse.
📊 Important Note
According to research, alcohol consumption on the island is slightly above the EU average. That’s why local health organizations use this day to emphasize prevention programs, educational campaigns, and support for those fighting addiction.
💡A Reminder
Sobriety is not just about giving up alcohol — it’s about choosing health, clarity of mind, and respect for oneself and others.

🇮🇱 Israel's air defense equipment moved from Limassol port to the center of the island
🔎 Many are asking questions! Israeli air defense systems in Cyprus? Videos online have sparked a wave of discussions
▪️Footage has appeared on social media allegedly showing Israeli Barak MX systems being transported from Limassol port deeper into Cyprus under guard. Local activists, including the organization Genocide-Free Cyprus (CFC), also reported a nighttime landing of an Israeli military plane at one of the island's airports.
▪️Several Turkish and Greek-Cypriot media outlets claim this is the second batch of system deliveries intended to strengthen the capabilities of the Cyprus National Guard. However, no official representative of the Republic of Cyprus has publicly confirmed that these are indeed air defense systems or that these deliveries have already taken place.
👨⚕️ Experts note: Barak MX systems are capable of intercepting a wide range of targets — from drones and missiles to aircraft. But their possible deployment in Cyprus raises concerns in Ankara and the Turkish-Cypriot side, who warn of the risk of destabilizing the region.
👉 Thus, the information is based on social media videos and media publications but remains without official confirmation from authorities.
