๐ Driverโs licenses, passports, and public services in one app: Cyprus moves IDs into the โDigital Citizenโ
Cyprus is officially entering a new digital era: driverโs licenses, ID cards, and several other documents will soon be available through the โDigital Assistantโ (Digital Citizen) app. This service, built on generative artificial intelligence, has become the first tool of its kind in the countryโs public sector.
In just eight months of operation, it has already processed over 143,000 citizen requests, offering round-the-clock support in both Greek and English. Its functionality is now expanding: new sections will include consular services of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, tax procedures, transport permits, electrification plans, as well as topics related to immigration, investments, and asylum.
The โArtificial Intelligence in Governmentโ program, with a budget of โฌ5 million, aims to accelerate the digital transformation of public administration, making services more convenient and reducing bureaucracy. Access is provided via the gov.cy portal and the โDigital Citizenโ app for all smartphones.

๐ A Celebration of Self-Love and "Let's Kiss and Make Up": Today is a day to forgive and love oneself.
๐ On August 25th, the world celebrates two warm holidays that remind us that love is what truly matters.
โค๏ธ The first is Self-Love Day: a time to pause and ask ourselves when was the last time we treated ourselves without any special reason.
Psychologists assure us that caring for our own desires and needs is normal, as long as it doesn't turn into selfishness.
Today is a great opportunity to do something you've been putting off: take a leisurely walk, spend the evening in your favorite place, or buy yourself a small gift. Our physical and emotional health will only benefit from it.
๐ This same day marks the International "Let's Kiss and Make Up" Day. Its purpose is to help people let go of grievances, ask for forgiveness, and restore lost connections.
Kisses, as proven, trigger the release of happiness hormones and enhance feelings of closeness. Scientists have found that men who kiss their partners before leaving for work live longer and are more successful in their careers.
A sincere gesture of love sets a positive tone and strengthens relationships.
โค๏ธ Therefore, today everyone has a reason: treat yourself, call those you haven't heard from in a while, and make amends. Love begins with self-care and continues with caring for others.

๐ Stage Against Turtle Nests: Scandal on the Akamas Peninsula
A dispute erupted on the Akamas Peninsula over a concert held on August 23 in the Natura 2000 zone near the green turtle nesting beach.
The Departments of Fisheries and Environmental Protection stated that no permission was granted for the stage installation and the event, while the NGO Terra Cypria expressed concerns about potential harm from the lighting.
Inspections showed that the lighting was limited and no threats to the nests were recorded. Authorities emphasize that this case should not set a precedent.
The mayor insists that the festival has been held for many years and the turtles are not harmed.

๐ Limassol โ a runway for millionaires: how Bugatti, Ferrari, and Lamborghini turn the city into a โshowcase of luxuryโ
Limassol has long established itself as the Cypriot capital of supercars. On the city streets, collections of Bugatti, Ferrari, and Lamborghini brought by wealthy businessmen and investors who have settled here or made Cyprus their second home are increasingly visible.
The cost of such cars on the island is significantly higher due to duties, VAT, and customs clearance โ the final price can increase by 30%. The owners are mainly entrepreneurs from the former USSR countries, the United Kingdom, Israel, and China. For some, a supercar is a tool for demonstrating status and entry into elite clubs; for others, it is a passion for technology or an investment in rare models.
Cyprus remains an attractive place for importing cars from the UK and Japan, where prices are lower and the selection is wider. That is why Limassol continues to be a โshowcase of luxuryโ and a place where the roar of expensive engines is heard most often.

๐ Greece, Lemnos Island: a mutilated shark was washed up on the beach โ eyewitnesses mention a boat propeller
Lemnos, August 24. Residents and tourists on one of the island's beaches witnessed an unpleasant sight. On Saturday evening, the sea washed ashore half the carcass of a large shark. According to a local radio station, it is the so-called โฯฮฑฯฮฟฯ ฮฝฮฌฯโ โ a six-gilled shark, known as a harmless species to humans.
Preliminary estimates suggest the animal died after a collision with a ship's propeller. Authorities remind that six-gilled sharks move slowly and often fall victim to marine traffic. In this case, the โgentle giantโ posed no threat but caused a stir among vacationers.
Environmentalists urge ship owners to exercise caution and pay attention to marine life, especially in areas where protected species are found. The source of the information was the radio station โRadio Lemnos.โ

๐ง Road at a dead end: the Paphos โ Polis highway is frozen again after a complaint by AKTOR and a decision by the tender authority
Construction of the key Paphos โ Polis Chrysochous route has once again been halted. The Tender Control Authority sided with the company AKTOR, which challenged the conditions of the new tender and secured a temporary suspension of the process.
Recall that the contract with AKTOR was terminated by the government in 2024 due to failure to fulfill obligations, after which the project was re-announced. However, the company filed an appeal, claiming violations of transparency and competition principles. As a result, the tender authority ruled that the contract awarding process is suspended pending the complaint review.
Now the fate of the highway is again uncertain: authorities insist on the swift completion of the project for public interest, but the decision to continue construction will be made only after hearings.
๐ Conclusion: the road meant to connect Paphos with Polis is once again turning into an "eternal construction site," where the interests of contractors clash with those of the state.

According to the counts, 86% of the waste was plastic: from small bottle caps to large items.
