๐ Every night a woman with a baby begs near the castle, "deceiving" the police.
- โJournalists from our publication have repeatedly contacted the Larnaca police station. The woman continues to beg without any obstacles, while her baby and two older children, who appear and disappear beside her, remain defenseless and vulnerable to exploitation.
Exploitation of minors is classified as a crime under the Criminal Code.
However, our eyes are closed, as are our ears in this city. No one takes responsibility. In such a small community, we have not been able to bring order among professional beggars. Their number will only grow, and citizens will be forced to lock themselves in their homes.โ

๐ Cypriot Banks: Deposits Lose Value, Loans Get More Expensive
๐ฆ The Central Bank of Cyprus noted that local banks significantly lag behind European standards. Depositors receive lower returns, and borrowers face higher loan rates than the eurozone average. The gap between these indicators continues to widen.
Key figures (June 2025):
1. Deposits (individuals):
Cyprus: 1.13% (average rate)
Eurozone: 1.77%
Examples: Societe Generale Cyprus โ 0.62%, Eurobank Cyprus โ 1.50%.
2. Mortgages:
Cyprus: 3.97% (rate rising)
Eurozone: 3.61% (rate falling)
Examples: Bank of Cyprus โ 5.00%, Astrobank โ 2.21%.
3. Business loans (<โฌ1 million):
Cyprus: 4.56%
Eurozone: 3.73%
Examples: Banque SBA, Astrobank >5.9%; Alpha Bank, Hellenic <4.2%.
Problems for clients:
โข Savings lose value: Low deposit rates reduce savings returns.
โข Credit burden: Buying a home or developing a business becomes more costly due to high interest rates.
โข Rate spread: Significant differences between banks require careful comparison (a few "tenths" of a percent can translate into thousands of euros over the loan or deposit term).
๐ Central Bank conclusion:
Cypriot banks operate under less favorable rules for the population, worsening the financial burden on citizens and businesses. The growing gap with Europe is a worrying signal for the island's economy.

๐น๐ท Turkey has delivered 150 traffic monitoring cameras to Northern Cyprus
The installation of 150 new traffic monitoring cameras has begun in the unrecognized Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). These include 130 stationary and 20 mobile devices. The system is expected to be launched on August 15โ16 with the participation of Turkey's Vice President Cevdet Yฤฑlmaz. These cameras are a gift from Ankara.
The TRNC Minister of Transport, Erhan Arฤฑklฤฑ, reported that the new generation cameras, developed by the company RADARSAN, will transmit recorded materials to a special police center. Software will also be available to send images and videos to the smartphones of offenders.
Mobile cameras will be placed on patrol cars, and the TRNC authorities have already requested another 150 such devices. The new system will transmit information in real time to all checkpoints, Ercan Airport, and ports. More than half of the traffic violations are committed by tourists and drivers of rental cars from the southern part of the island, which creates difficulties in collecting fines.
Arฤฑklฤฑ noted that now fines for violations will be instantly transmitted to customs services, and offenders will be required to pay them at the checkpoints. The new cameras will be able to record several violations simultaneously and will operate even during power outages thanks to solar panels.
