🇨🇾 Cyprus: "Golden Passports" – a path to legalizing criminal proceeds? 🔍
🇸🇬 Singapore has become the scene of the largest money laundering scandal in its history, with two key figures in the spotlight — Su Haijin and Wang Dehai, who obtained Cypriot "golden passports".

• What happened? These two laundered hundreds of millions of dollars obtained from illegal online gambling and loan sharking in Asia, using shell companies to hide their tracks.

• Evidence? When arrested, Su tried to escape through a balcony but was caught. In his house, suitcases with $2 million in cash, 13 real estate properties, luxury cars, and gold were found.

• Sentence: The court ruled that Su will surrender 95% of his assets ($127 million), and Wang 90% ($37 million). Both received prison sentences, and Cyprus revoked their citizenship.

• The system: A total of 306 "golden passports" were annulled. This scandal highlights that Cyprus has for many years turned a blind eye to the origin of invested funds, offering in return access to real estate and banking services. "Bring millions. Spend. We won't ask," — that was the island's policy.

• Fugitives: Among those hiding from justice are Joe Low, wanted and hiding in Shanghai, and Cypriot banker Dmitry Romaev, accused of embezzling ₽3 billion and hiding in Monaco.

Conclusion: The "golden passport" program turned Cyprus into a magnet for criminals. While they enjoyed life on the island, the risk was too great — they were caught. How much longer can Cyprus hide its role in this global scandal?
