📩 “Tax Department” Email Costs Cyprus Resident €2,517
Internet scammers are once again becoming more active in Cyprus. One resident of the island lost more than €2,500 after trusting an email supposedly sent by the Cyprus Tax Department.
⚠️ What happened?
The man received an email from someone claiming to be an employee of the Cyprus tax authorities. The message asked him to provide his online banking login details.
Shortly after sharing the information, scammers withdrew €2,517 from his account.
👴 The most common victims are:
• elderly people;
• users who rarely use government services online;
• people who do not know how to distinguish fake emails from real ones.
🚫 Important reminders:
• tax authorities and government agencies never ask for passwords via email;
• never share banking details with strangers;
• always check the sender’s email address;
• use two-factor authentication for your accounts.
❗️If you have already shared information with scammers:
• immediately contact your bank;
• block your cards and account access;
• report the incident to the police.
Be careful — these kinds of scams are becoming increasingly common.

💪 Cyprus: Exercise Against Stress — Especially During Heat and Overload
Amid the heat, traffic, and constant rush on the island, scientists are reminding people that strength training is one of the simplest ways to stabilize mental health.
🧠 Studies show that the better a person’s physical strength, the more active the hippocampus becomes — the area of the brain responsible for mood, memory, and stress resilience.
📊 Fact: people with low physical strength experience stress 42% more often.
🌴 In Cyprus, this is especially relevant because of:
— heat and high humidity;
— pressure from work and business;
— seasonal spikes in activity.
🏋️♂️ What actually works:
• basic exercises;
• weight training;
• consistency rather than overload.
💡 Even 2–3 workouts per week can help reduce anxiety and improve concentration.
The conclusion is simple:
in Cyprus, sport is not only about getting in shape for summer — it is about maintaining a healthy state of mind all year round.

🇨🇾 Cyprus Responds to Accusations Over Interception of the “Sumud Flotilla”
Cyprus’s Joint Rescue Coordination Center (JRCC) stated that vessels from the “Global Sumud Flotilla,” intercepted by Israel, were located in international waters approximately 90 nautical miles from the island and never entered Cyprus territorial waters.
🚢 Earlier, flotilla organizers accused Nicosia of allegedly ignoring distress signals within Cyprus’s area of responsibility.
However, the JRCC stated:
• no SOS signals were recorded;
• there were no grounds to launch a rescue operation;
• Cyprus acted in accordance with international maritime law.
📍 What is “Sumud”?
The name comes from the Arabic word meaning “steadfastness.”
The flotilla brings together international activists attempting to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza and protesting against Israel’s naval blockade.
⚠️ Israel has previously intercepted similar missions multiple times, stating that the flotillas are linked to organizations considered terrorist groups.
Cypriot authorities also emphasized that the current situation differs from last year’s incident, when one of the flotilla’s vessels officially entered Larnaca and docked at the port.

🌿 Three Lesser-Known Herbs That May Help With Blood Sugar, Blood Pressure, and Inflammation
Ayurvedic medicine has used healing plants for thousands of years — and some of them are only now starting to attract serious attention from modern scientists.
Here are three lesser-known herbs and spices currently being studied by researchers 👇
🥒 Bitter Melon
Despite the name, it may offer a range of health benefits.
Studies suggest it may:
• help lower blood sugar levels;
• support insulin function;
• reduce inflammation;
• lower cholesterol.
Some laboratory studies are also exploring its potential anti-cancer properties.
⚠️ People with diabetes should be careful — when combined with medication, blood sugar may drop too low.
🌱 Fenugreek
This herb has long been used for:
• blood sugar control;
• lowering cholesterol;
• digestive support;
• easing menstrual symptoms;
• improving lactation.
Some studies also suggest fenugreek may increase testosterone levels and improve energy during workouts.
⚠️ Mild side effects are possible, including bloating, nausea, or stomach discomfort.
🧄 Asafoetida
A popular spice in Indian cuisine with a very strong smell 😅
In Ayurveda, it is valued for supporting digestion:
• reducing bloating and gas;
• helping digest heavy foods;
• supporting intestinal health.
Researchers are also studying its:
• anti-inflammatory;
• antibacterial;
• blood pressure and blood sugar lowering properties.
⚠️ People taking blood pressure medication or blood thinners should use caution.
👨⚕️ Doctors remind people that even natural herbs can affect the body and interact with medications, so it is best to consult a specialist before regular use.

⚠️ Cyprus Authorities Warn About Dangerous “Health Peptide Injections” Sold Online
Cyprus’s Pharmaceutical Services have warned that popular peptide drugs heavily promoted on social media for:
• weight loss;
• muscle gain;
• recovery of joints and ligaments;
• fighting fatigue,
— are, in most cases, not approved in the EU and have not undergone full human clinical testing.
🚨 Some of these substances have already been seized in Cyprus.
What are these substances?
The warning concerns peptides popular in the fitness community, including:
• BPC-157;
• TB-500;
• Ipamorelin and others.
Bloggers and TikTok accounts actively market them as “miracle injections” for rapid body recovery.
🧪 The problem is that there is very little scientific evidence proving their safety for humans.
For example:
• many studies were conducted only on animals;
• the FDA in the United States has already issued warnings about potential risks;
• some substances may eventually appear on WADA’s banned list.
⚠️ Why is this dangerous?
Most of these products are sold through the “grey market” with labels such as:
“for research purposes only.”
Despite this, people continue injecting them into themselves without medical supervision.
At the same time, nobody can guarantee:
• that the vial actually contains the advertised substance;
• the correct dosage;
• the absence of contaminants or impurities.
👨⚕️ Cypriot authorities remind the public that all injectable drugs should have official registration and verified safety approval.
The legality of medications can be checked through the official registry of the Cyprus Pharmaceutical Services.

⚖️ Cyprus Appeal Court Increases Sentence for Man Convicted of Sexual Abuse of Minor Daughter
The Cyprus Court of Appeal has increased the prison sentence of a man convicted of sexually abusing his own underage daughter.
📍 Initially, in 2023, a court in Limassol sentenced him to six years in prison for two offenses.
However, following an appeal by the Attorney General, the punishment was considered too lenient.
🚨 The sentence has now been increased to 10 years of imprisonment for each category of charges.
The court stressed that crimes of this nature require strict and exemplary punishment — especially in cases involving violence against children and abuse of trust within a family.
⚖️ The ruling specifically highlighted:
• the need to protect minors;
• the increase in such crimes;
• the importance of the deterrent effect of sentencing.
Previously imposed restrictions and monitoring measures will remain in force.

⛽ Cyprus Plans to Begin Gas Exports to Europe by 2028
Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides announced that authorities have approved the development plan for the “Cronos” gas field along with key agreements for the sale of natural gas.
🌍 The first exports of Cypriot gas are planned for 2028 — through Egypt’s infrastructure and onward deliveries to Europe.
📍 How will it work?
• gas will be extracted from the “Cronos” field;
• it will be transported to Egypt through an underwater pipeline;
• the gas will then be liquefied in Egypt;
• afterward, it will be exported to Europe.
🏗 Why was Egypt chosen?
This option allows Cyprus to start exports more quickly and avoids the need to build its own expensive LNG terminal on the island.
👷 Development of the field is being handled by:
• Italian company Eni;
• French company TotalEnergies.
📊 Estimates suggest the field contains around 88 billion cubic meters of natural gas reserves.
🇨🇾 For Cyprus, this could become a historic milestone — the country may enter the international market as an exporter of its own natural gas for the first time.
Experts believe the project could strengthen the island’s economy and reinforce Cyprus’s role in the Eastern Mediterranean.

🏗 Larnaca Is Experiencing the Biggest Construction Boom in Its History
A city that spent years in the shadow of Limassol and Paphos is now rapidly transforming its skyline. Authorities report that more than 700 applications for construction and redevelopment projects are now being submitted every month.
📈 For comparison: just a year and a half ago, fewer than 100 applications were submitted monthly.
What is currently being built:
🏢 modern residential complexes;
🏨 new hotels and tourism projects;
🌊 coastal developments;
🌇 the city’s first high-rise towers and skyscrapers.
Among the largest projects:
📍 Marigate Larnaca near the port — a €12 million tower, with most apartments already purchased by foreign buyers.
📍 Lumina Mare — a 25-story tower worth €40 million.
📍 Horizon Towers — a major complex of four residential towers with a budget of €200 million.
🎭 Larnaca also received a major boost after being named European Capital of Culture for 2030.
The city is additionally planning:
• a House of Music;
• a congress center;
• new green zones;
• public spaces;
• upgrades to the port and marina.
🚢 The largest private project will be Land of Tomorrow — the biggest coastal development in Cyprus, planned for the site of former oil terminals.
Larnaca appears to be preparing for major changes and is gradually becoming one of the fastest-growing cities on the island.

👮 Body Cameras for Cyprus Police Delayed: Rollout Moved to 2027
Although the law introducing body cameras for police officers was adopted back in March 2026, officers are not expected to receive the devices before 2027.
⏳ The reason: lengthy bureaucracy and procurement delays.
📹 Why are the cameras needed?
Authorities say they are intended to:
• protect officers from false accusations;
• protect citizens from possible abuse of power;
• assist investigations and court proceedings.
🚨 In which situations will recording be mandatory?
Cameras will have to be activated during:
• arrests;
• searches;
• vehicle stops;
• police pursuits;
• responses to incidents;
• public disturbances;
• special operations.
💡 The devices will feature a visible light indicator, and officers will be required to inform individuals when recording begins.
🔒 Video footage will be stored in encrypted form for up to six months. Illegal access to or distribution of recordings could result in penalties of up to three years in prison.
⚖️ Authorities emphasize that the cameras are designed not only to protect police officers but also to strengthen trust between law enforcement and society.

Although the law introducing body cameras for police officers was adopted back in March 2026, officers are not expected to receive the devices before 2027.
⏳ The reason: lengthy bureaucracy and procurement delays.
📹 Why are the cameras needed?
Authorities say they are intended to:
• protect officers from false accusations;
• protect citizens from possible abuse of power;
• assist investigations and court proceedings.
🚨 In which situations will recording be mandatory?
Cameras will have to be activated during:
• arrests;
• searches;
• vehicle stops;
• police pursuits;
• responses to incidents;
• public disturbances;

☀️ Cyprus to Begin Disconnecting Illegal Solar Panels From June 1
Starting in June, Cyprus will launch large-scale inspections of residential and commercial solar systems. If panels are connected without proper authorization or their capacity was increased without approval, they may be disconnected from the grid ⚠️
What will inspectors be looking for?
🏢 Businesses that installed solar systems without EAC approval.
🏠 Homeowners who received approval for a system — for example, up to 5 kW — but later added extra panels on their own.
Why is this important?
Illegal connections are creating problems even for people who followed all the rules 😕
During April and May, legally installed solar systems on the island were disconnected 15–17 times per month, because the grid struggled to handle the overload.
⚡ Cyprus operates as an isolated power system — excess electricity cannot simply be exported to other countries. When solar panels generate too much power, operators are forced to temporarily disconnect part of the systems to avoid grid instability.
What could violators face?
❌ disconnection from the grid
💰 inspection costs charged to the owner
📄 cancellation of certificates
🚔 transfer of cases to police and regulatory authorities
📌 EAC advises owners to check their installations in advance and officially register any capacity increases before inspections begin.

⚖️ New Details Emerge in Cyprus Tanner Case: Investigators Wanted to Charge Current Police Chief
New details have emerged in one of Cyprus’s most high-profile cases in recent years — the story of Tanner, a teenager who died after years of reported domestic abuse.
It has now become known that back in 2020, independent investigators recommended opening a case against the current Cyprus Police Chief, Themistos Arnaoutis 🚔
What happened?
According to the investigation, Tanner’s mother reported domestic violence to police in 2013. At that time, Arnaoutis was in charge of the police station that received the complaint.
Investigators later concluded that not all necessary actions may have been carried out following the report:
• a full investigation was not conducted;
• possible witnesses were not questioned;
• additional procedures were not carried out.
📄 In 2020, investigators recommended criminal prosecution, but Cyprus’s Attorney General ultimately decided not to proceed.
It was also revealed that the original investigation involved 15 police officers, but charges were eventually brought against only one person.
⚠️ Court proceedings in the case are still ongoing, and the story remains one of the most widely discussed cases in Cyprus.
