๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ**School violence in Cyprus: family is the main shield โ€” without it, aggression only grows
**The Educational Psychology Service of the Cyprus Ministry of Education has published the annual report of the "Safe School" group. The main conclusion: the family plays a decisive role in preventing and correcting aggressive behavior in children.

โœ… When parents actively cooperate with specialists, children's behavior improves significantly.
โŒ When there is no cooperation, aggression persists and even increases with age.

๐Ÿ  Risk factors within the family:
In almost all cases of persistent aggressive behavior in children, there is violence present in the family or immediate environment โ€” physical, emotional, sexual, or neglect. Abuse of a child at an early age makes it highly likely that the child will begin to display aggression themselves.

๐Ÿ“Š Statistics for Cyprus (over 11,000 students):
โ€” The most frequent problems are aggression and violence at school. These rank second after academic difficulties.
โ€” Aggressive behavior is often accompanied by learning problems and school adjustment issues. Early identification of these difficulties helps prevent the development of aggression.
โ€” The level of violence is roughly the same across all provinces.
โ€” Boys are involved in incidents twice as often as girls.

๐Ÿ“‰ The problem of late identification:
Many cases go unnoticed in primary school, and children enter secondary school with serious difficulties. Moreover, those who are identified early (in kindergarten or the early primary grades) often continue to experience problems throughout their school years.

๐ŸŽ What helps at school:
Good teaching practices, a positive climate, and teaching style. When a teacher acts as a mentor, aggression decreases and academic performance improves.

๐Ÿ“ฑ The influence of social media:
Social media push children toward aggressive behavior through the pursuit of likes and views. Aggressive or dangerous posts create an effect of "socially rewarded risk" โ€” children begin to imitate. Furthermore, online communication reduces empathy: the victim's pain is not seen directly, but in a digital, "distant" format.

However, there is a nuance: when parental or pedagogical supervision is present, teenagers use social media more functionally and with less harm to their behavior.**
**๐Ÿ‘‰Thus, the key to reducing school violence is early identification of problems, cooperation between family and school, and reasonable supervision of children's time online.**

๐Ÿ **1,292 dangerous buildings in Cyprus: "time bombs" waiting to go off
**A year ago, on April 2, 2025, we reported that across Cyprus there were 1,292 structures declared dangerous. Of these:
โ€” Nicosia โ€” 618
โ€” Limassol โ€” 308
โ€” Larnaca โ€” 170
โ€” Paphos โ€” 170
โ€” Famagusta โ€” 26

Since then, the situation has likely only worsened. Following the local government reform (July 1, 2025), oversight responsibilities for dangerous buildings were transferred to new District Organizations (EPAs), which, by their own admission, have neither the resources nor the staff to carry out inspections.

โš ๏ธ What do experts say?
On October 3, 2025, at a meeting of the parliamentary interior committee, the Secretary General of the Cyprus Scientific and Technical Chamber (ETEK), Andreas Theodotou, stated: "There are apartment buildings that could collapse even in a weak earthquake and kill people. This problem must be addressed as soon as possible."

According to him, the problem is particularly acute in the centers of Nicosia and Limassol, but exists in other cities as well.

๐Ÿข Apartment buildings are especially dangerous
ETEK recommends starting with the restoration of common property in multi-unit buildings (koinoktita), where more people live than in private homes.

๐Ÿ“œ A bill is stuck in limbo
Discussion of a bill regulating the management of multi-unit buildings, where nearly half of Cyprus's population lives, "ended ingloriously." The bill is stalled because the Ministry of Interior transferred oversight responsibility to the District Self-Government Organizations (EPAs) without consulting them and without allocating resources for hiring staff.

"The EPAs have become 'black holes,' having assumed powers previously held by others, without even any discussion," said Konstantinos Giorgadzis, a representative of the engineering community.

The tragic collapse of a building in Germasogeia on April 11, which claimed at least two lives, is just the first warning sign. Experts say that if nothing changes, the next victims are only a matter of time.**

**๐Ÿช– X-ray of Cyprus's defense: drones, smart missiles, and wheeled monsters replacing old tanks
**Turkish forces in the north have numerical superiority, but the National Guard is betting on technology.

๐Ÿค– Drones for every platoon
The National Guard is receiving Cypriot-made Poseidon H10 drones (range 50 km). The plan is to equip all units, from platoon to division, with drones.

๐Ÿ’ฅ Next-generation anti-tank missiles
Against tanks โ€” Israeli Spike LR2 and French Akeron MP. They strike with pinpoint accuracy over dozens of kilometers.

๐Ÿšš Tanks are becoming a thing of the past
Soviet T-80s will be replaced by French wheeled armored vehicles โ€” the VBMR Griffon and Serval. Fast, mobile, and survivable. Talks are also underway with the US.

โšก๏ธ Air defense umbrella and naval missiles
Modernized Exocet Block 3 missiles can sink ships from a range of 200 km. Air defense is multi-layered.

โš ๏ธ The main problem โ€” people
There aren't enough personnel to operate the drones. And the old Israeli Merkava tanks are only a temporary solution.**
๐Ÿ“ŒCyprus is ceasing to be an easy target. The army is becoming smaller but more dangerous. Any aggression will come at a high cost for the occupiers.

๐ŸพGreen Party opposes closure of Melios Zoo โ€” fate of 400 animals in question
The Cyprus Court of Appeal has finally closed the Melios Zoo in Ayia Trimithias (a suburb of Nicosia). The Green Party sharply criticized the decision, calling it not a victory but a "systemic failure" of the state, which knew about the problems for years but did not intervene.

๐Ÿฆ What will happen to the animals?
The fate of more than 400 residents, including large predators, is at stake. The Greens warn that releasing them into the wild is "neither realistic nor responsible" and "could lead to certain death." Euthanasia is also not an option โ€” except in exceptional cases for medical reasons.

๐Ÿ›๏ธ The Party's position:
"Ecology and animal protection cannot be only mechanisms of pressure. They must be accompanied by responsibility, knowledge, and applicable proposals," the party stated, emphasizing that the decision to close the zoo was long overdue, but authorities have no ready plan to save the animals.

What next?
The Cyprus Animal Party claims that preliminary planning is already underway. Veterinary services will assess the animals' health. Lions and monkeys may be sent to specialized centers in Europe or Africa.
๐Ÿ“ŒBut one thing is clear for now: more than 400 animals are waiting for officials to decide where to put them. And the Greens promise not to let them "be left to fend for themselves."

๐Ÿ **Housing in Cyprus has risen 53% in 10 years โ€” but in Europe it's growing faster
**According to Eurostat data, from 2015 to the third quarter of 2025, housing prices on the island rose by 52.91%. Across the European Union, that figure was 64.9%, while rents in the EU increased by 21.8%. So Cyprus is growing, but more slowly than many.

๐Ÿ“Š Who's ahead?
The leaders in housing price growth in the EU are Hungary (+290%), Portugal (+180%), Lithuania (+168%), and Bulgaria (+157%). The only country where prices fell was Finland (-3%).

Rent tells a similar story: the highest growth is also in Hungary (+109%), followed by Lithuania (+88%), Ireland, and Poland (both +76%).

๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡พ What about incomes?
The problem is that housing prices are rising faster than wages. The average gross salary in Cyprus in the third quarter of 2025 was โ‚ฌ2,452 per month. That's โ‚ฌ24 less than the previous quarter (โ‚ฌ2,476). For comparison, in the first quarter of 2003, the average wage was โ‚ฌ1,360. So over 22 years, wages have grown by about 80%, while housing has risen 53% in just 10 years. The gap is not catastrophic, but it is noticeable.

๐Ÿ’ฐ What about renting?
For those renting out property, it's useful to know: the highest returns in Cyprus come from tourist apartments (5.75%) and shops (5.75%). Standard apartments yield about 5.41%, while houses return only 2.97%.

๐Ÿ™๏ธ By city
Limassol remains the most expensive for rent: the average asking price is โ‚ฌ3,057 per month. Larnaca is the most affordable: around โ‚ฌ1,277. However, in terms of housing price growth in the first quarter of 2025, Larnaca led, with apartments rising nearly 4% over the year.**
**๐Ÿ‘‰Housing in Cyprus is becoming more expensive, but not as rapidly as in Eastern Europe. The real problem lies elsewhere โ€” wages are growing more slowly, and rent in Limassol is already painfully high. If you're planning to buy or rent out, keep an eye on Larnaca and Famagusta โ€” the trends there are more interesting.**

๐ŸŒฟ**Houseplants as natural filters: Spanish study shows how to clean the air in just one day
**A new study from the University of Seville, published in the journal Atmospheric Environment, proves that houseplants do more than just decorate. When placed correctly (as a vertical "active green wall"), they can remove up to 90% of airborne pollutants in just 24 hours.

๐Ÿงช What did the scientists study?
Five popular houseplants:
โ€” peace lily (Spathiphyllum)
โ€” zebrina (Tradescantia)
โ€” philodendron
โ€” creeping fig (Ficus pumila)
โ€” spider plant (Chlorophytum)

Each was placed individually in a glass chamber containing pollutants typical of ordinary homes and offices (from furniture, building materials, cleaning products, and stoves).

โšก Which one came out on top?
The peace lily performed best: within just 30 minutes, it removed about 50% of nitrogen dioxide. It outperformed the other species in effectiveness.

Overall, after 24 hours, the system reduced concentrations of volatile organic compounds, formaldehyde, nitrogen dioxide, and sulfur dioxide by 96โ€“98%.

๐Ÿ•’ Every hour counts
Within just 15 minutes, the plants reduced pollution by 24โ€“40%, depending on the species. Formaldehyde was removed even faster.

๐Ÿ” The effect does not diminish
The researchers repeated the experiment for three consecutive days โ€” effectiveness did not drop, and in some cases even increased.
๐Ÿ‘‰A green wall of houseplants (especially peace lilies) is a simple and accessible way to make the air in your home or office cleaner, without relying solely on mechanical filters. This is especially relevant for spaces with new furniture, plastic, and electronic devices.**

๐Ÿค”Clerides: Raid on my home "worse than the British in EOKA"
Nikos Clerides describes the Holy Saturday police raids at his home and Nicosia office over the Santis file as a shocking operation. He says a dawn warrant aimed to block legal remedies; six officers woke him at 07:30, ignored his refusal to consent and searched both sites in front of two lawyer witnesses. Police ran keyword searches for Vgenopoulosโ€‘linked firms, Project Helix, Cypriot funds and banks but found nothing. They opened a safe and seized Santis files, 3โ€“4 USBs and three phones; his phone was sent to Europol. ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธFidan: Greece and Greek Cypriot moves fuel Eastern Mediterranean tension
Turkish FM Hakan Fidan criticizes Greece's partnership with Israel and regional ties. He says Ankara has tracked a chain of alliances for 3โ€“4 years and detected efforts to isolate Turkey. Early attempts to widen that grouping were halted by Turkish interventions; the issue narrowed to Greece, the Greek Cypriot administration and Israel. Fidan calls Athens' stance risky and politically isolating in Europe. He warns such choices increase mistrust and could draw parties into conflicts. He questions the strategic need for Greekโ€“Israeli military cooperation and urges abandoning these policies.

**๐Ÿš”Cyprus police to step up speed checks this week: what you need to know
**From today, Monday 13 April, until Sunday 19 April, police are carrying out a large-scale week of enhanced speed checks across the island. The raids are part of a Europe-wide cooperation of the ROADPOL traffic police network.

โšก Why does this matter?
Speeding is one of the main causes of serious and fatal traffic accidents in Cyprus.

๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ What will they be checking?
First and foremost โ€” compliance with speed limits. Patrols will be intensive, including on highways and in urban areas.**
**๐Ÿ‘‰Tip: Slow down in advance, especially in residential areas and near schools. Fines are high, and safety is worth more. In the week before Easter, police will be especially vigilant.**
