🔊**DISY proposes law on bar and club operating hours: bars until 3:30 AM, clubs until 5:00 AM
**DISY MP Kyriakos Hadjiyiannis has submitted a bill to parliament regarding the operating hours of entertainment venues. The government previously withdrew a similar bill before a vote, and the MP has refiled the agreed-upon version as a private member’s initiative.

According to the text, taverns and pubs will be able to operate until 3:30 AM year-round. For clubs and discos, a ministerial decision can set operating hours until 5:00 AM.

Licenses will now be issued by municipalities and community councils, rather than the Ministry of Tourism. A special license is foreseen for unlicensed establishments already in operation. Venues in hotels will be exempt from licensing for leisure activities. Banquet halls will no longer be required to display their price lists.

🔊**€4.5 million autism center to be built in Cyprus
**President Nikos Christodoulides has confirmed the start of construction on a model center for people with autism in the Famagusta free area. The project is budgeted at €4.5 million and is expected to be completed in 18 months.

The announcement was made following the "Run for Autism" charity event in Ayia Napa. The event was organized by the local association supporting people with autism. This year, over five thousand participants from 20 countries took part. All funds raised will go toward supporting people with ASD in the Famagusta district.

This will be the first specialized center of its kind in the region. The project is being carried out in collaboration with the Ayia Napa Municipality and is included in the state budget. The President described the construction as "the state's minimum obligation" to its citizens.

Christodoulides first announced the intention to build the center in February 2025. The project has now secured funding and moved into the implementation phase.

Background: Autism spectrum disorder affects social interaction and behavior. It was officially recognized as a diagnosis in 1980. According to the CDC, autism is now diagnosed in 1 in 31 children. The main reasons for the increase are changes in diagnostic criteria and greater awareness. The causes of autism are not fully understood, but research points to a combination of genetic and environmental factors. Vaccines and paracetamol use during pregnancy do not cause autism—this has been repeatedly disproven by studies.

🔊Larnaca against the development of the port and marina without land areas
Local authorities in Larnaca refused to support port and marina development projects, which do not include adjacent land areas. The proposals submitted to the Ministry of Transport more than a month ago provide only for the modernisation of the port and the expansion of the marina by 200 seats - this is not enough for the city.

Mayor Andreas Viras said that without clear deadlines, cost and development of ground zones, the city council will not give consent. «We don’t give out carte blanche,» he emphasised.

Minister of Transport Alexis Vafeadis specified that the department is not against the development of the adjacent territories, but it is important not to harm the work of the port. He supported the idea of an architectural competition that will connect the Finikudes embankment with a new coastal area.

The final offer from the Cyprus Ports Authority is expected in five weeks.

🔊Fire helicopters arrived in Paphos to combat summer fires
On Friday, the first two Black Hawk fire helicopters landed at Paphos airport. They came from Rhodes, where they passed the parking lot. Two more Sikorsky-type vehicles are expected to arrive within 24 hours.

All four helicopters are equipped with built-in water tanks - unlike Russian Kam-32, which used hanging buckets. This technique is used in many countries, including the United States.

Since today, the crews have started intensive training. They will have to familiarise themselves with the processes and conditions of work in Cyprus. Soon the helicopters will be fully ready to extinguish the fires.

It is important that aircraft equipment arrived this year much earlier than last season - then the first vehicles appeared only in June. This will allow you to better plan firefighting measures and act more effectively in case of fires.

🔊The refusal to let Muslims into the Hala Sultan Tekke mosque on Uraza Bayram caused a scandal

The leader of the Turkish Cypriots, Tufan Erhurman, criticised the authorities of the Republic of Cyprus for not allowing Muslims from the TRNC to visit the Hala Sultan Tekke Mosque in Larnaca on the Eid al-Fitr holiday (Uraza-bayram). He called the ban unacceptable and promised to raise this issue at all levels, including the UN.

Official Nicosia once again rejected the request for an organised trip submitted through the UN peacekeeping forces. Earlier, similar requests concerned March 21 and 22, but were also not satisfied.

In the past, 300 to 500 people visited the mosque on such holidays. This time they asked for permission for 105 believers, later the number was reduced to one bus - allegedly for safety reasons. As a result, the trip was completely banned.

The unrecognised «TRSC» called this decision arbitrary and violating freedom of religion.
