🏍️Case "Hairdresser": Seeks annulment of 2011 double-murder conviction
46‑year‑old lifer Dōros Theofanous filed with the Supreme Constitutional Court, via his lawyer, asking to reopen or quash his conviction for the 2011 double homicide. He invokes new witness statements that, he claims, undermine the main prosecution witness, fellow lifer Antonis Prokopiou Kitas. Three sworn declarations allege Kitas told them he lied at the original trial. Theofanous was sentenced in 2012 to life for the killing of his pregnant partner, Yulia Oporok, 24, and 35 years for their three‑year‑old daughter Victoria; his 2024 escape prompted removal of police and prison leadership.

Vaccinations of cattle within three‑kilometre protection zones have been completed; inoculations continue to 10 km, Deputy Veterinary Officer Sotiria Georgiadou reports. Orders placed and urgent procurement under way for pig vaccines, says pig farmers' representative Petros Kailas, who warns infected pigs shed virus in large amounts. Authorities have not decided on a nationwide blanket vaccination. Some remote areas without cases, like Akamas, are not considering vaccination now. Concerns voiced about entering a lasting epidemiological status. Large EU vaccine shipment expected tomorrow; plan to be reassessed in two weeks.

State of the Republic
US reexamines failures of checks and balances after recent presidency. Debate over State of the Union: Bill Maher calls it unnecessary, likens modern practice to monarchical addresses. Constitution asks the president to inform Congress "from time to time," not annual spectacle; Jefferson sent written messages for decades. Washington’s first address: 833 words, 10 minutes; recent address: 10,820 words, 1h48m. Maher: speeches became presidential wish lists; public treats president as agenda‑setter, yet Article I vests all legislative power in Congress. Congress makes laws, declares war, levies taxes, approves appointments. President’s role: execute laws. Here those limits long settled.
