🚨Night double burglary in Ayia Napa and Paralimni
At 04:00 three masked men hit a jewellery shop in central Ayia Napa. They forced the security shutters, smashed the shopfront glass and in 2 minutes 40 seconds stole diamonds and other pieces valued at over €1 million. Footage shows them fleeing by car; police are searching for the vehicle. The 48‑year‑old owner reported the store's security activation and officers are examining footage to identify the suspects.

Earlier the same night burglars entered a Paralimni home via the garage without forcing doors and stole €100,000 while the owners were abroad. Investigations ongoing; no arrests yet.

Geadis urges EP resolution on buffer zone incidents
MEP Geadis (ECR) raised threats against Greek‑Cypriot farmers in the UN buffer zone at the opening of the European Parliament plenary in Strasbourg and requested a condemnation resolution for February. He cited Deneia — heavily armed Turkish soldiers attacked farmers claiming a new border; Mammari — soldiers and occupation authorities hurled stones; Avlona — forces entered the buffer zone. He said the UN office in Cyprus had assured such acts would not recur, yet similar events occurred three days ago. He called for immediate EP reaction and cross‑group support, saying Cyprus "is not for sale."

🦩Larnaca: Flamingos hold "weather meeting" at salt lake
Pink flashes returned to Larnaca salt lake as flamingos staged a brief 'weather meeting' at the weekend. Locals spotted groups in shallow water — pairs and trios preening, necks curled like a gossip circle. The birds are regular winter visitors from Eastern Europe and Africa, arriving November–December and staying until spring to feed in nutrient-rich shallows. Their return underlines the role of Cyprus wetlands on the East African–West Asian migration route. Sightings offered locals a bright, cheerful coastal moment.

🚯♻️Illegal dumps in Paphos — Ecologists ask President to visit
Uncontrolled dumps near Agia Varvara, Paphos, threaten public health. A Green Point operates nearby. Andreas Evlavis, Ecologists' official for Limassol‑Paphos, called the sites "the work of thousands of irresponsible citizens" and blamed state failure to find and punish offenders. He says at least five illegal dumps exist where people discard dead animals, furniture and appliances. The problem worsened in the last six months; the area was cleaned once after media exposure. Evlavis invited President Christodoulides to tour the sites and asked the state to apologise for mishandling citizens' quality of life and health.

🥶😱Record snowfall buries Kamchatka in metre-high drifts
Kamchatka Peninsula - Extraordinary winter storm dumps record snow, heaviest in about 60 years. Weather stations report parts of the peninsula received over two metres in the first half of January after roughly 3.7 metres in December. In Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky multi-metre banks have sealed building entrances and buried parked cars. Footage shows vehicles nearly invisible and off-road trucks stalled. Residents dig narrow corridors to reach doors; streets boxed in by walls of snow up to traffic lights. Some climb and play on the drifts; others face immobilised cars and major disruption to daily life.

❤️Two seven‑month‑olds receive cochlear implants in Nicosia
Nicosia General Hospital’s Center for Cochlear and Other Auditory Implants completed successful cochlear implant operations on two seven‑month‑old babies. The interventions follow international practice of earlier implantation to improve chances for natural speech and language development by providing auditory input in the critical first months of life. A multidisciplinary team — ENT surgeons, anesthesiologists, audiologists, pediatricians, genetic specialists and experienced nursing staff — managed diagnosis, surgery and postoperative care. Authorities credit sustained investment in equipment, training and teamwork for the safe outcomes.
