😢Friend sexually abused underage girl, raped her mother — conviction upheld
Appeal Court upholds man's conviction for sexual exploitation of a minor; appeal dismissed. Offences took place between 2007–2010 while the complainant was a child. First-instance court convicted him of one count of child sexual exploitation and three counts of indecent assault and imposed 3.5 years for the main count. Victim testified by recorded evidence at 16; delay in disclosure accepted due to age and traumatic family context. Family unstable: father ill, mother depressed; defendant abused trust and also raped the mother. Psychological report found PTSD linked to the abuse. Defence denied charges and blamed the mother; Court found the victim’s testimony credible and confirmed the sentence.

🐠Paphos shop shut for selling expired meat and fish
Municipal Health Services raided a small Paphos outlet and suspended operations after finding hygiene breaches and food past expiry dates. The shop mainly serves residents from African countries. Because many food items and documents must be checked, teams will inspect paperwork to establish origin and supply chain. This is the second premises in Paphos temporarily closed after hygiene failings; the first was a food-for-consumption business suspended for four days until full compliance. Health checks will be intensified during Christmas and New Year.

🚖Desert downpours flood Dubai and Abu Dhabi
UAE hit by rare heavy rain; streets turned to rivers early Friday. Authorities urged residents to stay indoors, closed beaches and parks, shifted public-sector staff to remote work. Low-lying roads and underpasses flooded; fast-moving water filmed in northern emirates. Officials warned drivers to avoid travel unless necessary. Flights faced delays, some passengers struggled to reach airports. Experts say intense short storms are increasing in the Gulf, straining drainage built for an arid climate. Nearby Qatar saw sports events disrupted.
