🗣️Pompeo: No easy resolution likely for Cyprus dispute
Former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Turkish Cypriots want a solution but Turkey’s leadership appears less willing, so a Cyprus settlement will not come easily. He called West–Ankara ties complex and said efforts failed to stop Turkey keeping Russian weapon systems. Pompeo noted Turkey is the only regional power prepared to put troops on the ground in places like Syria and Gaza and said he hopes it becomes more European. He predicted Western unity, rejected a third world war over Ukraine, described claims of Western decline as Chinese propaganda, called Iran the root of Middle East problems and warned the US will act where Russia and China expand influence.

🦠Dr. Karagiannis: New COVID variant causes sore throat
New variant detected weeks ago drives case swings worldwide. Main feature is intense sore throat and hoarseness; runny nose, fever and fatigue similar to earlier strains. Mutations change one or two amino acids in the entry protein, easing transmission. Overall illness milder than Delta but waning immunity, especially unvaccinated or not recently infected people, can cause stronger symptoms. Virus remains risky for those with chronic conditions. Flu A/B uptake low, raising symptom burden. Basic precautions: handwashing, masks, avoid crowds. Northern winter may raise respiratory infections.

💶€700,000 donation sparks scrutiny at First Lady's Social Support Agency
Auditor‑General warns large private gifts may appear to influence when donors also do business with the State. ISSB, led by the First Lady and mainly privately funded, aids students and families. Report cites: one firm negotiating a state contract gave €395,750 in 2023 and €300,000 in 2024; another tied to a €10m EU project gave €200,000 a year; financial firms under review gave €10,000–€50,000. Donors linked to the investment programme, a foreign high‑net‑worth backer and health companies awaiting approvals were flagged. Auditor‑General: private support acceptable but safeguards lacking; calls for tighter oversight to protect independence and public trust.

🚑Code 56: 30% of gynecologists perform over 80% of C‑sections
TV probe: Cyprus records about 60% of births by caesarean. Findings show roughly 30% of obstetricians carry out more than 80% of C‑sections. Multiple women say they were simply told “we’ll do a C‑section”, without clear explanation or alternatives, reporting pressure and traumatic experiences. Experts cite systemic drivers: no limit on number of patients per obstetrician, schedules and leave, and payment rules under the national health scheme. A specialist warns C‑section has four times higher maternal mortality. Proposals: team‑based care and incentives with penalties for clinicians.

📝Turkey denounces EU report as biased toward Greece and Cyprus
Ankara’s Foreign Ministry labels the EU’s accession progress report biased and unfounded, accusing Brussels of siding with Greece and the Republic of Cyprus on Eastern Mediterranean and Cyprus matters. It says the report repeats "legally unfounded, maximalist" Greek and Greek Cypriot positions, ignores Turkey’s and Turkish Cypriot concerns and weakens the EU’s impartial mediator role. Turkey welcomes positive notes on its economy and improved ties, urges lifting of 2019 measures, seeks institutionalised cooperation and a constructive Brussels response.
