👮Demosthenous killing: paid contract staged
Police say they are closer but key perpetrators still missing. Two Georgian suspects arrested in Thessaloniki are believed to fill critical gaps. One allegedly met the two shooters by car at Agios Tychon after they abandoned the getaway motorcycle and burned the van. The other is thought to have driven the van and later the motorcycle used to flee. Both detained on European warrants, they consented to extradition to Cyprus and deny involvement. Authorities call these the most important of seven arrests; four others allegedly secured the motorcycle and a fifth is linked to a car used to surveil the victim days earlier.

📝Namı optimistic Turkey will not impose two‑state solution
Former negotiator Özdiil Namı says he believes President Erdoğan will not force a two‑state outcome in Cyprus. If a return to the status quo is ruled out, Turkey could create a new opening for talks. Namı, who led negotiations under Mustafa Akıncı, urges resuming discussions from Crans‑Montana to preserve previous convergences. He says Turkish Cypriots are weary of the status quo and want a settlement. Four conditions for success: respect past convergences, fixed timetable, arbitration mechanism and costs for rejecting a deal. Proposes referenda framed so each community chooses between a settlement and continuation of the current regime; hopes Turkish Cypriots will press again for negotiations despite wider geopolitical shifts.

🦖Prastio residents restore desecrated village cemetery
Small team of former Prastio residents returned to their long-abandoned village in occupied Famagusta. They unearthed dozens of weathered grave crosses scattered along the cemetery's eastern edge, many belonging to villagers who died before 1974. Working without funding, volunteers catalogued and collected the crosses and began identifying original grave sites. Organizers prepared topographical maps. On Nov 1 residents will visit, note family names and recollections; all contributions will be entered into a digital archive as part of an effort to restore the cemetery cross by cross.

🦮Cyprus Blind Association Calls for Law to Recognise Guide Dogs
Cyprus Blind Association requests special legislation to recognise the importance of properly trained guide dogs for blind and disabled people and to protect their rights. The group says guide dogs ensure safe, independent access to buildings, open spaces and services, in line with UN disability rights. Cyprus ran a training service until the early 1990s; police trained at least eight dogs. Training can take up to two years and costs €15,000–€20,000; handler co-training lasts 5–6 weeks. EU rules cover cross‑border transport but not mobility within a member state. Other countries have laws guaranteeing access; any restriction is discrimination and punishable.
