Position Title: Senior DevOps Engineer
Reporting Line: Reports directly to the Head of Technology.
Location: Fully Remote (within ±3 hours of UTC)
General Purpose:
Drive the reliability, scalability, and delivery velocity of our Windows-centric software platforms by partnering with C/C#/ .NET developers, architecting modern CI/CD pipelines in TeamCity, and owning production-grade monitoring and alerting systems.
Specific Objectives (~12 months):
- Transition 90% or more of code repositories to build and deploy via standardized TeamCity scripts.
- Deploy live SLO dashboards and reduce mean time to recovery (MTTR) by at least 50%.
- Achieve full infrastructure-as-code coverage for all Windows server configurations, with manual changes reduced to below 5%.
Key Activities:
- Design, implement, and maintain multi-stage CI/CD pipelines (build, test, scan, deploy, rollback) using TeamCity and Kotlin DSL.
- Administer and scale CI/CD infrastructure across Windows and Linux, including automated agent image builds and plugin integrations.
- Provision and configure Windows infrastructure—including IIS, SQL Server, and .NET runtimes—via infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or Pulumi.
- Implement observability tooling (metrics, logs, traces), define SLOs/SLAs, and integrate alerting systems with PagerDuty or Opsgenie.
- Automate OS patching, IIS configuration, certificate rotation, and optimize .NET CLR settings for performance.
- Collaborate with developers to promote pipeline-friendly coding, versioning, and artifact practices.
- Communicate infrastructure concepts to technical and non-technical audiences, lead incident retrospectives, and maintain runbooks using docs-as-code principles.
- Enforce security and compliance measures, including least-privilege access, secret rotation, and regular vulnerability scanning.
Key Competences:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in DevOps or Site Reliability Engineering roles, including 2+ years at a senior or principal level.
- Proven ownership of CI/CD platforms, with a strong preference for TeamCity; experience with Jenkins, GitLab CI, or GitHub Actions also valuable.
- Proficiency in PowerShell and at least one infrastructure-as-code tool (e.g., Terraform, Pulumi, or AWS CDK).
- Deep expertise in Windows Server and IIS administration, with solid working knowledge of Linux environments.
- Hands-on experience with modern observability stacks such as Prometheus/Grafana, ELK, Datadog, or equivalent.
- Strong communication skills—able to distill complex technical issues into clear, actionable insights for diverse audiences.
Likely Current Job:
- Senior DevOps Engineer or Senior Site Reliability Engineer (SRE)
- CI/CD Engineer or Build & Release Engineer
- Platform Engineer or Automation Engineer specializing in Windows/.NET environments
- Infrastructure Engineer with deep TeamCity expertise
- Systems Engineer experienced in IIS, TeamCity, or Octopus Deploy
- Observability Engineer or Monitoring & Telemetry Lead
Employer Value Proposition:
Join a collaborative team where your expertise is genuinely valued and contributions go far beyond routine support work. Work with a modern, thoughtfully chosen tech stack, enjoy meaningful autonomy in how you tackle complex challenges, and benefit from clear opportunities for both personal and professional development.
