Backend Engineer (Python)

About us:
https://www.historica.org/ We are developing a state-of-the-art web application that merges interactive historical maps with a powerful aggregator of various historical sources, such as texts, maps, and datasets. Our aim is to create a user-friendly platform that allows individuals to study history through an engaging and customizable interface. As we continue to collaborate with historians and other specialists to refine our product, we are looking for an experienced Backend Engineer to support the development of our MVP from prototype to production.
__Location: Cyprus/Remote.
Requirements:__
- 3+ years of commercial experience with Python (FastAPI/Flask/Django);
- Experience working with databases (PostgreSQL, MongoDB, etc.);
- Solid understanding of AWS or other cloud providers;
- Experience with microservices architecture;
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines;
- Proficiency in English and Russian.
Nice to have:
- Experience in GIS development, including working with mapping libraries (e.g., Leaflet, GeoDjango, PostGIS);
- Experience with spatial databases and geospatial data processing;
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Google Cloud, Azure);
- Experience in Data Engineering, including ETL pipeline design and implementation.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain the backend using Python (FastAPI, Flask, or Django);
- Build and integrate interactive historical maps;
- Manage and deploy infrastructure on AWS;
- Integrate and manage geospatial data using GIS tools and libraries;
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues as they arise.
